US Patent No. 1 is not the first US Patent. For 46 years (1790-1836) patents were not numbered, so those patents have now been given the prefix “X”, making them the so called “X series patents”, all of which were issued prior to U.S. Patent No. 1, and making the actual first patent number “X000001”.
